This is Cadillac’s first year racing in the International Motor Sports Association’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. And, in a remarkable show of power, Cadillac is undefeated and has captured all five victories, as well as 11 of the 15 podium places, so far.
Cadillac’s 6.2-liter V8 engine is at the heart of all of its prototype race cars, including the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac Dpi-V.R, the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac Dpi-V.R. and the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac Dpi-V.R. Each of those teams has only used two engines, and, collectively, the cars have driven more than 15,500 miles.
The race-modified 6.2-liter V8 shares similar architecture with the 6.2-liter V8 engines found in the CTS-V sedan and Escalade SUV. However, the race-ready version pumps out nearly 600 horsepower and comes naturally aspirated. Those engines are modified and maintained by ECR Engines.
