Chevrolet’s Safety Technology Offers an Added Security

Now that we are in the midst of summer, more people will be outside in full force, riding their bikes and just having fun in the neighborhood. Because of that, the rate of accidents, especially backover ones, can rise. Chevrolet’s safety technology wants to help prevent those accidents with its Surround Vision camera system.Chevrolet's safety technology - Tom Naquin

“Technology offered on the Equinox, like Surround Vision, is designed to give drivers more tools to help them see around their vehicle before they put it in gear,” said Rondell Burge, researcher of driver behavior at Chevrolet.

The U.S. Department of Transportation estimates that there are about 210 fatalities and over 15,000 injuries each year because of backover accidents. And, of those, about 40% occur in residential areas and 24% happen in driveways.

With Surround Vision, available on the redesigned 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, drivers will get a 360-degree view of their surroundings during low-speed driving, like backing up or parking. That can help make those maneuvers safer and more accurate.

Surround Vision uses four cameras, including the standard Rear Vision Camera, two side-looking cameras under the mirrors, and a forward-facing camera located in the grille. When a driver shifts into reverse, Surround Vision is activated, and the bird-eye-view is displayed on the center stack screen.

The all-new 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is available at Tom Naquin dealerships now.
